Here’s The Sweet Scoop On Dessert Hummus

If you’re into all things hummus, you’ll be excited to know that you can now satisfy your sweet tooth with your favorite snack food. Just like how pizza and honey go together and cheddar and apple pie are a surprisingly tasty match, there are plenty of strange food pairings out there that somehow work and this might be the flavor train to hop on next.

The health-conscious company Delighted By, which appeared on an episode of Shark Tank in October, makes a snack that’s vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and low in sugar. The sweet spread is called Dessert Hummus. It has the texture of cookie dough, but it’s actually made from chickpeas. And you can find the dessert spread in stores nationwide.

The best way to eat dessert hummus is by the spoonful, but you can also dip your pretzels or fruit in it, top your oatmeal or yogurt parfaits with it, or spread it on rice cakes and toast. You could even use it in place of icing on your cupcakes. The health-conscious snack comes in four flavors: Brownie Batter, Choc-O-Mint, Snickerdoodle and Vanilla Bean. All of these dessert hummuses contain only 4 to 6 grams of sugar per two-tablespoon serving.

To make dessert hummus, the garlic, lemon and olive oil in the classic savory recipe are replaced with ingredients like whole vanilla beans and coconut oil. Dessert hummus lets you have your cake and feel good about it, too. Plus, you can freeze dessert hummus to extend its shelf life — just make sure you consume it the day of defrosting and stir it well.

Needless to say, we’re intrigued.
