Daniel Boulud — the prolific French chef behind the two Michelin-starred Daniel on the Upper East Side and several more casual restaurants throughout New York, Boston, Miami, Montreal, Toronto — has received his own portrait mosaic at the 72nd Street station along the new Second Avenue Subway.

Boulud, who served as the executive chef at Le Cirque from 1986 to 1992 before opening the eponymous Daniel in 1993, called the portrait, installed by the artist Vik Muniz, “the most meaningful reward as a New Yorker, after more than three decades of cooking in the same zip code.”

The Second Avenue Subway opened to the public on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2017.
