A New Croissant-Sushi Hybrid Has Us Totally Baffled

@dailyfoodfeed

In the world of food hybrids, there have been a ton of success stories. You have cronuts, ramen burgers, spaghetti donuts, sushirritos and brookies (brownie cookies). But now, a more questionable culinary innovation has emerged. Enter the crossushi, also known as the California Croissant, which is a croissant and sushi hybrid.

Yep. You heard that right. It’s a sesame seed-topped flakey croissant filled with smoked salmon, wasabi, pickled ginger and nori seaweed, complete with soy sauce for dipping. A croissant, when done right, is a masterpiece on its own, but at Mr. Homes Bakehouse — with locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seoul, South Korea — they apparently needed to go that extra mile and filled these pastries with sushi ingredients.

The funniest part is how small the actual sushi part is compared to the big fluffy croissant. It looks pretty weird. According to Instagram, it tastes like a cross between a salmon sandwich and cooked sushi wrapped in a pastry.

More than anything, we’re confused by the idea and find it slightly unnecessary, but we’re not saying we wouldn’t try it. If you like sushi and you like croissants, how bad could it be?
