This Online Health Tool Will Make You Forget About WebMD

If you’ve ever tried to Google your symptoms when you’re feeling under the weather, you’ve probably read that it’s possible you’re dying from the most untreatable, most gruesome disease ever when, in reality, it could be just a weird rash you got from using a new soap. No matter the actual diagnosis, it’s not helpful to read about the worst case scenario. And that’s where Buoy comes in.

Buoy, a modern health tool developed by Harvard Medical School doctors, aims to diagnose your symptoms without jumping straight to the graveyard. The online service uses artificial intelligence and asks 20 questions or so to identify a specific number of potential diagnoses.

You can expect to provide simple information like your age, sex and overall health. And the further along you move in the questionnaire, the narrower and more focused the questions become.

After providing all necessary information, you’ll be presented with a few potential diagnoses and the system will let you know if it recommends seeking immediate medical attention. The data you’re given is pulled from the same data actual doctors use, according to Buoy’s website.

Obviously, this online health tool should not replace your actual doctor, but if you need answers at 3 a.m. in order to get to sleep, you can turn to Buoy in the meantime. Hey, whatever works, just as long as you get better.
