The World’s Strongest Beer Is More Potent Than Whiskey

@pivnoiser

Beer lovers, we’ve got new for you. Brewmeister’s Snake Venom has been dubbed the world’s strongest beer and it’s designed for boozy thrill-seekers. Snake Venom, which doesn’t actually use any venom in the brewing process, has an ABV of 67.5 percent. The fortified beer retails for $78 a pop and comes with a warning label. Most beers hover somewhere between five to 10 percent ABV, so this is pretty wild. Snake Venom has a higher ABV than you’ll find in most liquors. Whiskey comes in around 40 to 43 percent.

If you’re brave enough to try Snake Venom, it’s recommended that you drink it in small doses of 35ml or 1.2oz, which is basically equivalent to a little more than a shot. Because of its strength, you can only get one bottle of Snake Venom at a time.

This fortified beer is an English barleywine (one of the strongest beer styles) and has a surprisingly smooth taste for its strength. Snake Venom has no carbonation due to its high ABV. A spokesperson for Brewmeister told Thrillist, “The liquid is too dense and therefore it cannot hold the bubbles in the same way a standard beer can.”

The world’s strongest beer is made with smoked peat malt and both champagne yeast and ale yeast. The color ranges from amber to brown with a thick body and the flavors can range anywhere from fruity to bittersweet. While it may be a little unusual to take shots of beer, it’s easier to appreciate the drink itself this way. You’ll be able to identify more of the aroma and flavor profile of Snake Venom when you’re pacing yourself in shots, rather than gulping it down. Also, you don’t want to die.

So why would the Scotland-based brewing company invent such a beer? The spokesperson explained, “We decided to create it as an experiment.” Snake Venom isn’t currently available in the U.S., but there’s always the chance an American brewer will take on the challenge of inventing an even stronger concoction.
