These 6 Quirky Spots Have Nailed How To Mix Booze And Books

@ones_lagers

We all know that many of our favorite authors like to mix a little business and pleasure, writing some major masterpieces from the stool of a bar, and we are 100 percent in favor of following suit at these fantastic literary gems. Whether you’re a beer drinker or a wine connoisseur, all bookworms should have a favorite boozy-reading haunt on the radar. Here are some of our favorites.

1. Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar, Asheville, North Carolina

Here in Asheville, you’re in for books and bubbly. The Battery Park Book Exchange is a bookshop and a bar, where you can peruse used books, sell your old tomes, and sip on a glass of wine or champagne.

2. Fiction Beer Company, Denver, Colorado

There are quotes from literary greats on the big wooden tables (Think Hunter Thompson’s “Good people drink good beer. Bad people drink bad beer. Think about it.”) and entire tables made out of books. The brews themselves are themed after your favorite novels,  like the Phantom Tollbooth-inspired “Island of Conclusions” citrusy IPA.

3. Oscar Wilde, New York, New York

The exquisitely intricate Oscar Wilde bar in New York took years to complete, but the end product is packed with Victorian-style antiques and furniture to pay homage to the man himself. The cocktails are pricey, but joyfully punny ($14), such as the gin-based 50 Shades of Dorian Gray.

4. The Library Bar, Los Angeles, California

Some of our favorite book destinations are in downtown L.A., and the Library Bar is no exception. You’ll find craft cocktails based on books here, like the Tequila Mockingbird (tequila, blackberry pink-peppercorn, lime and Serrano) and the This Side of Paradise (pineapple rum, passion fruit, lime and angostura).

5. Elements: Books Coffee Beer, Biddeford, Maine

A little bit off the beaten path, this southern Maine spot is a true nerdy gem. Come for the used book selection, locally roasted coffee or regional craft beer, which are all served in a bright, happy and no-fuss space (with a little bit of chemistry humor in the decor). What more can you want in a spot?

6. The Spotty Dog Books & Ale, Hudson, New York

Pretentious but lovable (just like me) #books #beer #allyouneed

Housed in an 19th-century firehouse, the Spotty Dog is a charmingly chaotic bookstore with a bar among the shelves. Hit up trivia night or grab a local brew after browsing the stacks (we like the sound of B. Nektar Zombie Killer – seems like the drink to be had when embracing your inner geek).
