Tourists, Watch Out For These 8 Bizarre Laws While Traveling

Tourists, beware. Even some popular countries for travel have some weird laws on the books that can get you in trouble. But you can avoid fines by knowing these eight regulations. Save your money for travel treats and souvenirs.

1. Posting photos of alcohol in Thailand

You’ll have to wait to show off any “cheers to Thailand” pics of your vacation toasts. It’s illegal to post photos that show the consumption of alcohol, so hold off on those cute drink snaps until you’re home. If you decide your shot is just too good not to share, it could cost you $6,000 or nearly a year in jail.

2. Using a selfie stick in Milan

Extending your photo reach is prohibited in the fashionable city of Milan. The popular accessory is not allowed on public streets and honestly, thank goodness. No one wants to get hit in the head with a selfie stick while enjoying fabulous Italian art.

3. Kissing in Dubai

Skip the PDA while in the United Arab Emirates. It is illegal to kiss or hold hands in public in Dubai, and travelers have been arrested for smooching in the city. On the plus side, catcalling is also against the law, so there’s no need to worry about weirdos trying to become your boyfriend while you can’t hold hands with your real bae.

4. Putting love locks on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York

Parisians put the nix on adding lock-shaped symbols of love to the city’s iconic bridges and NYC had followed suit. You’re still encouraged to have a lovely romantic moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, but adding a padlock will cost you $100.

5. Bringing alcohol to the Maldives

Don’t try to bring booze into the Maldives; it will be confiscated at the airport. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t drink in the country. Only resorts with proper licensing can sell alcohol because the majority of Muslim native residents don’t partake.

6. Wearing swimwear outside the beach in Barcelona

Barcelona boasts an inviting beach, but please cover up when you’re done with the seaside. The city fines those wearing bikinis or lacking shirts in public. The price tag of wearing your suit beyond the beach can be more than $300.

7. Feeding the pigeons in Venice

It’s against city law to feed the masses of birds in Piazza San Marco. You’ll be hit with a fine of nearly $80 for giving the birds bits of your biscotti to munch on.

8. Running out of gas on the Autobahn in Germany

If your tank reaches empty on the high-speed German Autobahn highway, you’re in violation of the law. It’s illegal to stop on the highway and it will cost you around $100. But don’t try to walk down the road to find some gas. That’s also illegal (and a bit of a death trap).
