The World’s First Bending Skyscraper Is On The Horizon
One studio may have just conceived the most incredible skyscraper on earth, and New York City would be its home. The world’s first bending skyscraper was designed by Oiio, a company founded by a Greek-born architect named Ioannis Oikonomou.
According to USA Today, Big Bend, as it’s been called, will be a 4,000-foot-long skinny, curved structure running along Billionaires’ Row on 57th St.
Ioannis designed the building to be “long, not tall” so that the buyer would not face too many air rights fees. Height limitations, as well as the lack of space in Manhattan, leave little to the imagination for architects, but Oikonomou believes the plan is solid and completely achievable.
The glass tower plans feature an elevator that would defy all current designs with the ability to travel in curves, horizontally and in loops. This is some serious future for the Manhattan skyline.
We don’t know about you, but we’re pumped about this advancement. Bring it on, Big Bend!
