Vienna, Austria has the best quality of life in the entire world, according to a recent survey.

The 2018 Mercer Quality of Life Index evaluated 450 cities around the world based on politics, economics, culture, health, education, transportation, housing, food and climate. In the top 20 cities with the best quality of life, you’ll find European cities, Canadian cities, Australian cities and New Zealand cities, but not one American city. As you ponder that not-so-coincidental outcome, the cities around the world that did make the top 20 are below.

1. Vienna, Austria

2. Zürich, Switzerland

3. Auckland, New Zealand

4. Munich, Germany

5. Vancouver, Canada

Wondering what the highest-ranking U.S. city is? None other than the techie capital and former hippy paradise of San Francisco. San Fran ranked 30th on the list, with Boston (35), Honolulu (36), Seattle (44) and New York (45) all trailing behind and making the top 50.
