If you’re looking for a little motivation to live better, it’s time to make your way to the couch and turn on Netflix. That’s right, this is pretty much the only time we’ll tell you to choose the sedentary path in the name of health. Cozy up with a mug of tea (or a glass of wine — your call) and take your pick of the eight wellness documentaries below. From food to yoga to the meaning of happiness, they’ll leave you feeling a lot more enlightened than you were before pressing play.

1. “Sugar Coated”

Dare we say, we prefer this documentary to “Fed Up,” the more popular choice for exploring all facts sugar-based. The role that public relations played in hiding the substance’s toxicity from us all this time is wild.

2. “On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace”

Following photographer Michael O’Neill as he talks with yoga masters in India, Tibet and New York, this documentary is nothing short of centering and uplifting.

3. “In Defense Of Food”

Michael Pollan comes to our rescue yet again in this flick, answering the age-old question: “What should I eat to be healthy?” Using research from his book, he explains how to navigate the modern food environment that’s been making so many of us sick.

4. “Happy”

Most of us don’t have time to travel the world in search of the true meaning of happiness, so filmmaker Roko Belic did it for us. In just 75 minutes, you’ll have a much better understanding of this coveted emotion and how to harness it.

5. “Rotten”

One of the newest releases on this list, “Rotten” is a six-part documentary series that dives into the underworld of food production. Full of corruption, waste and danger, this documentary will satisfy your craving for both activism and true crime.

6. “Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things”

If you’re trying to cut out all that excess shit in your life, this is the documentary for you. Just follow along with the stories of several minimalists from various walks of life to see how they do it.

7. “Food Choices”

Surprise, surprise: The food choices you make impact your health, the planet and the lives of other living creatures. But this film will walk you through exactly what that looks like.

8. “What The Health”

Ever wonder how health care, the pharmaceutical industry and food all intersect with one another? Us, too. That’s why we turned to this 2017 exposé, the follow-up to “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret” (which is another must-watch wellness documentary, BTW).
