These Bizarre 5Ks Could Make You Puke

@brainfreezer5k

When you think of a 5K, you probably think of running toward a finish line 3.1 miles from your starting point. You’re probably imagining beginning your day with a shake, running your 5K with lots of water and completing the race. Well, that’s about to change. What if we told you that there are 5Ks out there that allow you to indulge in your favorite foods while you run? Yeah, sounds like a horrible idea, but we’re still so intrigued. These weird 5Ks involve eating and drinking your go-to comfort foods during, and sometimes after your run. Good luck not puking.

1. The Corn Dog Classic 5K — Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma hosts an annual Corn Dog Classic 5K, which doesn’t actually involve eating corn dogs specifically (womp). The run costs $30 to enter (or $35 if you register on race day), and during your race you must finish a mini chicken and waffle, orange juice (or mimosa if you’re 21 or over) and a caramel apple. By entering to run the race, you also receive a shirt, admission to the Tulsa State Fair and a post-race beverage and treat coupon. Keep an eye out for the next race, which will be in fall 2018 (actual date TBD).

2. The Bacon 5K Challenge — Allentown, Pennsylvania

Bacon lovers, it’s your time to shine. This annual race, which was recently held on September 16, 2017 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, involves running half of a 5K, eating half a pound of bacon, then running the rest of the 5K. It costs $39 to enter the race and includes a complimentary bacon and eggs breakfast with fruit at the end. You’ll also receive a scratch-and-sniff shirt for participating, and if you haven’t had your fill of bacon after the race, you can indulge in other treats like chocolate-covered bacon.

3. The Chocolate 5K Race — Niagra, Canada

Chocoholics, you better head to Niagra, Canada on May 13, 2018 to participate in the annual Chocolate 5K Race. You can register for the 5K for $50, and participating includes eating chocolate-covered strawberries and marshmallows during the race, and then indulging in other treats like truffles, fudge and chocolate-filled croissants afterward. You’ll also receive a complimentary chocolate martini (if you’re 19 or older — gotta love Canada’s drinking laws!).

4. The Beer 5K Relay — Lyons, Colorado and Brevard, North Carolina

Taking place in Lyons, Colorado and Brevard, North Carolina, the annual beer 5K relay involves — yep, you guessed it — chugging beer during a race. If that’s not puke-worthy, we don’t know what is. Grab your beer-loving friends and form a team, and you will drink 12 ounces of an Oskar Blues microbrew before each lap of the looped 5K trail. The team that loops around the track quickest wins the race. You can enter the race for a participation fee between $35 and $70 depending on the day and location. Keep an eye out for 2018 dates.

5. The Brain Freezer 5K — Burlington, Vermont

Ben & Jerry’s lovers, if you’ve ever wanted to eat a pint of your favorite flavor while running, we found the perfect 5K for you. For a registration fee of $30 to $45 (there are multiple weekends per year and prices change), you can join the race, which includes running 1.5 miles, eating a whole pint of ice cream, then running the last leg of the 5K. If you’re able to keep your ice cream down and complete the race in good time, you’re eligible to win a number of extra prizes. Check the Brain Freeze 5K website for dates of upcoming races.
