In a world where burgers still reign supreme, no matter what food trends come and go, two chains have been in competing slots for America’s favorite juicy patty. The Virgina-based Five Guys has finally taken the crown from the West Coast chain In-N-Out for the title of America’s favorite burger restaurant brand, according to the results of theĀ 2017 Harris Poll’s annual EquiTrend rankings.

The burger battle was based on customer’s familiarity with the brand, the quality of the burgers and how likely they are to consider purchasing its menu items. In-N-Out has held the sought-after title for the past two years. McDonald’s ranked at the top for general familiarity. Other top contenders included Shake Shack and Wendy’s.

Both Five Guys and In-N-Out have expanded theirĀ brands across the country in recent years. Five guys, has an open-style kitchen where you can see everything being made fresh. Signature sacks of whole potatoes line the walls. The Virginia-based chain is known for its generous portion sizes, unlimited peanuts, semi-enormous fresh-cut fries cooked in peanut oil and straightforward juicy patties with limitless toppings.

The insanely popular California-based fast food icon, In-N-Out, has been making its signature burgers the same way since 1948 with fresh and quality ingredients being at their core. People love them for their not-so-secret, secret menu items like the Animal-style burger, which is made with extra special sauce, grilled onions, pickles and mustard-fried patties, on top of all the regular toppings.

There will always be a place for both Five Guys and In-N-Out in our hearts (and stomachs), but the people have spoken.
