You can fly to Beijing and participate in Chinese New Year or Spring Festival (as it’s called in China) for well under $500. Who knew flying to China could be so gosh darn affordable?

Beijing lights up with fireworks and firecrackers for the festivals, and welcomes thousands of celebrators to the city’s temples. Even if you’re not religious, you can still enjoy the temple markets.

From New York: $434

You’ll depart from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday, February 14 and land in Beijing the following afternoon (after a layover in Chengdu). Your return flight could be February 24 or March 3, depending on how long you want your trip to be. It’s the same price.

From Chicago: $499

Aren’t you lucky, Chicagoans? Your flight is direct. You’ll leave February 15 and touch down in Beijing the next evening. To get back home, you can grab a flight on February 25, or save ten dollars and return midweek.

From Los Angeles: $422

It might take some hopping around, but you can get this low fare by flying from L.A. on February 14 to Qingdao, then to Xiamen, then finally to Beijing. You’ll land in the big city on February 16. Coming back stateside, you can be home on February 25, or wait until March 3 or even March 10.

Don’t forget to pack your mittens! China may be halfway around the world, but it still is winter.
