American Airlines Is Reportedly Going To Let Passengers ‘Self-Upgrade’ For Free Booze

American Airlines

If you are dreaming of a complimentary glass of vino and flying in style, American Airlines has some joyous news for you. The airline will reportedly let customers “self-upgrade” from economy seats to American’s new Main Cabin Extra (MCE) section. AKA, you can leave your seat to claim a better one once the cabin doors are closed.

American’s MCE includes complimentary beer, wine or spirits, extra legroom and a guarantee that your carry-on gets space in an overhead bin. That’s right, no forced gate checking for MCEers.

Now, the new rules don’t allow you to flee from your lowly economy seat and end up in first class. You’re limited to traveling in the main cabin, according to a memo circulated to airline staff.

If these rumors are true, we see some warning signs brewing. What if there’s one precious MCE seat available and 14 economy flyers circling like vultures? Well, we’ll see you at the finish line, because we all want that in-flight wine.
