Airbnb Wants To Launch An Airline, Making The Company A Door-To-Door Travel Giant
Sometime in the future, you might book an entire vacation on Airbnb. You’d pick your room (from the site’s new categories of shared room, home or hotel), you’d choose some activities (from the company’s selection of experiences) and potentially even buy a flight on Airbnb Airlines.
Now, that’s not a real airline — at least not yet. But Airbnb founder Brian Chesky recently told The Sunday Times that the company is thinking about launching an airline. He said the company is considering a lot of things around aviation, but that “we definitely want to make sure, though, that we can get into the end-to-end trip business.”
It’s an idea that’s been in the works for about a year, according to The Information. Originally, it seemed like Airbnb would focus on creating a booking tool to find flights, but now it seems like they’re starting from the ground up and building an actual airplane service. One thing is clear: Chesky is crowdsourcing some aviation ideas.
Let’s say you could wave a magic wand and have the perfect flying experience, what would that look like?

We have some thoughts. We’d love some actual legroom and space in the overhead bins, please. If anyone can figure that out, it’s the people who convinced us that staying in strangers’ spare rooms around the world was the best way to vacation. Our legs are counting on you, Airbnb.
