This Abandoned French Castle Was Transformed Into Colorful Street Art

This abandoned French castle outside Paris is now must-see street art. Pop surrealism artist Okuda San Miguel transformed the forgotten castle into the most colorful countryside destination.

Okuda is best-known for his Mona Lisa-inspired mural in Paris and is famous for his vibrant pop art style, and surrealist influences. The Spanish artist’s Valette Castle mural, “Skull in Mirror,” uses bright geometric patterns and polka dots, turning the decrepit castle into a masterpiece.

The 19th-century castle (located in the Loiret region outside Paris) was pretty run down from the 1980s until the early 2000s, just waiting for someone to come up with a new vision for the property.

Inspired by the Loiret region’s history, Okuda and 100 other urban artists transformed the entire castle estate into an immersive street art paradise as part of Urban Art Paris’ annual LaBel Valette Festival.

The final product is seriously stunning. As the viewer’s perspective changes, the artwork transforms from an abstract geometric rainbow to two distinct skulls.
