You Can Kayak Through Skyline Views In These Cities

@freehiker_adventures

The eight destinations below let you paddle straight through city centers for stunning skyline views and completely different perspectives on famous landmarks. So take to the water with these urban kayaking adventures!

1. Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm is Sweden’s Venice, except you can explore the canals in your own kayak instead of a gondola. Stockholm Adventures brings visitors through the heart of the capital city, which is filled with Nordic church spires and centuries-old buildings.

2. New York City, New York, U.S.

Manhattan is an island, so it only makes sense to see the iconic skyline from the water. There are several free kayaking spots around the city. Try the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse for downtown views or the Long Island City Community Boathouse for glimpses of the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building.

3. Miami, Florida, U.S.

Urban kayaking meets sea kayaking off the coast of Miami in South Beach. You won’t hit waves like you would on the open ocean so even first-time kayakers can take to the water. Don’t miss South Beach Kayak’s sunset cruise for a gorgeous sundown view of the Miami skyline surrounded by palm trees.

4. Chicago, Illinois, U.S.

Kayak Chicago has three locations in the Windy City so you can paddle at two spots on Lake Michigan or go straight downtown on the Chicago River. Try the City Lights Night Paddle to see the glowing skyscrapers reflect off the water.

5. St. Petersburg, Russia

Trade the cobblestone streets of St. Petersburg for a waterfront view with AhtiLahti tours. The Russian city is filled with little canals that let you get right up close to the historic center’s exceptional architecture.

6. Portland, Oregon, U.S.

The Willamette River cuts directly through downtown Portland and you can hit the water with Portland Kayak’s rentals and tours. The standouts: The Ross Island Sunset Tour showcases the cityscape at dusk and the Full Moon Paddle lets you see the city by moonlight.

7. Dublin, Ireland

Dublin’s River Liffey has the best vantage points to see the Irish city’s famous bridges. During the summer, City Kayaking arranges for live music under some of the many stone arches.

8. San Francisco, California, U.S.

City Kayak has experiences for newbies ready to paddle around the wharf and offers advanced adventurers all the way out to the Golden Gate Bridge. Don’t worry, you can take it in stages. Start with a downtown tour and work up to venturing out on the bay.
