If you’ve ever wanted to explore the beauty of Cape Town in South Africa, you should absolutely go. But we’re guessing you didn’t know your vacation could include playing with and rearing baby penguins. Animal lovers, rejoice!

Ozy reports that the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) is the company behind a mission that welcomes volunteers from around the world to come take care of baby penguins for a six-week stint.

The birds have been rescued from dire situations in the surrounding area and have been brought to SANCCOB’s sanctuary to heal. Since SANCCOB launched in 1968, the organization has helped care for over 98,000 penguins and other seabirds. It’s worked through a number of oil spills and natural disasters to keep the penguin population thriving.

If you volunteer with the program, you can expect some pretty early starts, to get your hands dirty (literally) and to take in some pretty gnarly smells. However, playing with and taking daily care of the penguins really makes the experience worth it. You’ll wash them, feed them and make them feel special.

If you’re already planning to visit Cape Town for an extended period of time, or you’re looking for a serious opportunity to make a difference, you can find out how to become a volunteer on SANCCOB’s website.

We guarantee you’ll feel incredible after this experience. There really is no greater sense of purpose than helping baby animals stand on their own two webbed feet.
