You know what Ron Swanson says about breakfast — the gruff, but loveable ultra-masculine character on Parks and Rec. says, “There has never been a sadness that can’t be cured with breakfast food.” Breakfast is like your fuel and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Your morning meal can set your mood and appetite for the rest of the day, so when you’re looking to make a diet or lifestyle change, examining your breakfast choices is a great start.

Oh #avocadotoast it’s been way too long…and I promise there is coffee under all that foamed milk 😍

An article by Delish highlights a study by the International Journey of Obesity showing that “eating two eggs for breakfast, as part of a reduced-calorie diet, helps overweight adults lose more weight and feel more energetic than those who eat a bagel breakfast of equal calories.” Research also shows that adults who eat eggs for their first meal of day lose 65 percent more weight and also exhibited a 61 percent greater reduction in BMI (Body Mass Index).

Contrary to what you might’ve heard, eggs are among the healthiest foods you can eat. They’re rich in protein, healthy fats, essential vitamins and minerals and usually, someone conveniently has a carton lying around their fridge at all times. The video above, by Authority Nutrition, features Dietitian Joe Leece explaining how eggs have unique properties that make them “egg-ceptionally weight loss friendly.” For their low-calorie nature, eggs tend to make you full because of their high levels of protein. According to Leech, studies have repeatedly shown that “egg meals increase fullness and reduce food intake during later meals compared to other meals with the same calorie content.”

Make sure you’re eating the egg yolk for full nutritional benefits. Whether you choose to scramble, boil or poach, eggs won’t hurt you. Eat the whole egg and try to use little amounts of cooking oil if you’re trying to be health conscious. Aside from aiding with weight loss, eggs have also been shown to give you a morning boost of energy, so get cracking!
