This Is The Perfect Whiskey To Honor Women’s History Month

Republic Restoratives, a female-run craft distillery in Washington, DC, is moving forward with Rodham Rye, a whiskey that would celebrate the first female president. The founders of the distillery, Pia Carusone (who previously worked as former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords’ chief of staff) and Rachel Gardner, have decided to create a limited batch of Rodham Rye whiskey to celebrate Women’s History Month, which is March.
Hillary Clinton has apparently been known to throw back a little whiskey now and then, but ultimately, Rodham Rye is meant to celebrate women in history and it’s “a tribute to women in our everyday lives,” says Carusone. The whiskey is a blend of one-year-old rye and three-and-a-half-year-old Tennessee rye. Carusone also makes the point that out all of the grains that could’ve been use to make this whiskey, rye was chosen because of its sturdiness and resilience. There’s also some New York-sourced maple syrup added to the batch, which is an homage to Clinton’s home state.
The tagline on the bottle appropriately reads “A Selection Of Whiskies That Are Stronger Together Than Apart.” Everything about Rodham Rye is a symbolic nod to women everywhere. There are 4,652 bottles available and they run $70 before shipping. Five percent of the proceeds will go to an organization called Emily’s List that supports pro-choice Democratic women running for office. You better hurry and get a bottle before they disappear.
