The holiday season is surely the most magical time of the year, but it also comes with boatloads of stress and anxiety as you prep to host extended family members, find thoughtful gifts that your loved ones will appreciate, travel in the harsh winter elements to be with your people and do your best to keep your budget intact. All of that frenetic energy can lead to frustrating breakouts and just generally unhappy skin. So we created a simple facial scrub you can easily make at home that is both festive and soothing.
By using coconut oil as the base, you supply your skin with a hefty dose of hydration that perfectly balances the dry air of winter weather. And combining a couple of drops of peppermint oil and tea tree oil provides the antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties your skin needs to calm down and heal. Lastly, raw sugar creates a gentle exfoliant so you can soak up all the benefits of the other ingredients more effectively.
What are you waiting for? Time to whip up a batch so your skin is fresh and glowing when your guests arrive!
DIY Peppermint Facial Scrub
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- 1 cup of raw sugar
- 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
Directions
In a medium-sized bowl, combine all four ingredients until you have a thoroughly mixed, granular paste. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and then apply a scoop of the sugar scrub to your clean skin. Slowly and gently massage the scrub into your skin in circular motions so the essential oils can reach every pore, let it sit for one minute and then gently rinse off the sugar mixture with cool water. Pat your face dry, and feel instantly hydrated by the coconut oil and refreshed by the peppermint’s menthol effect.
Store the remaining sugar scrub in a glass jar in a cool, dry place for later use.
