The Swiss Chocolate Train combines Switzerland’s best exports — chocolate and cheese — with a gorgeous train ride through the mountains. The entire ride is nine hours of chocolate, cheese and the Swiss countryside.
The train departs from Montreux.
Grab a coffee and croissant for the first part of the train ride.
The train itself is historic.
From the Belle Époche era, the 1915 train has only first class seats.
Your first stop is Maison du Gruyère.
The factory creates Gruyère cheese, AKA the stuff that makes fondue.
And yes, you get to sample the cheese.
Some authentic fondue is included in your ticket.
The next stop is the town of Gruyères.
You can hop off the train and tour the town’s medieval castle.
Chocolate factory Maison Cailler is the last stop.
It’s the oldest and most iconic chocolate brand in the country.
You’ll see every step of how chocolate is made.
From beans to bars.
