Blue Apron Plans To Roll Out Its Meal Kits To Retail Stores
A trailblazer in the world of boxed meal kits, Blue Apron has plans put its meal kits, and a-la-carte cooking kits, on shelves in grocery stores later this year. According to Fortune, the expansion into retail stores is part of an effort to reach more customers and go beyond the company’s subscription-only model.
Right now, Blue Apron subscriptions will run you $60 a week and the box has enough food to make two to four recipes for as many as four people. So that comes out to around $10 per serving. While Blue Apron hasn’t revealed how much these kits will cost once they hit shelves, or where we can expect to find them, the meal kit service could appeal to a whole new audience by being accessible to non-subscribers across the country.
Selling meal kits in grocery stores would mean more visibility for the New York-based Blue Apron and it could be a way to introduce new products to consumers, which could potentially lead to more subscribers down the road. We’re intrigued to see what the boxed meal kit pioneer will do next.
