Paris Is Flooding And The Photos Are Eerie AF
Paris is flooding and thousands of local homes are endangered, dashing many tourists’ hopes of a happy visit to the City of Lights. The waters of the River Seine hit dramatic levels this week — and they’re expected to stay high for days or weeks to come.
The water is more than 19 feet deep.
That’s nearly 12 feet deeper than usual.
Weeks of rain caused the water to rise.
It’s the highest the river has been since 2016.
The water is so high that boats can’t sail.
Bateaux Mouches tours (a tourist favorite) are out of service.
Even subways are out of commission.
Riverside stations on the Versailles lines are closed.
Some parks are entirely underwater.
The Île de la Cité is almost completely submerged.
Parts of the Louvre are closed.
But don’t worry, the art is safe.
1,500 people have been evacuated.
And 1,500 people are without electricity.
The water is expected to start going down on Tuesday.
But it could be a while until the city is back to normal.
