Going To Minneapolis For The Super Bowl? Here Are 5 Local Faves To Hit Up
In case you live under a sports-filtering rock, it’s about to be Super Bowl time. This year, Minneapolis has the hosting gig and the winter-y city is more than ready (think gigantic ice castle). But what are you to do with your time away from the stadium while in Twin Cities? These MSP faves will you some local flavor besides the football.
1. Blue Door Pub
There’s a serious burger-battle in the Twin Cities over who is the true owner of the Juicy Lucy (Matt’s Bar vs. The 5-8 Club), but you can avoid the hoopla and get a more creative burger at The Blue Door. The restaurant does spins on the Juicy Lucy, but fills the burgers with blue cheese, goat cheese or ghost pepper cheese instead of American. One more tip: Get the tots, not the fries.
2. The Bachelor Farmer
If you want to embrace the Nordic roots of Minnesota, dine at The Bachelor Farmer. The restaurant is a James Beard award-winner and has the Scandinavian minimalist thing down. There’s a cafe for brunch and coffee, and a full-service restaurant for heartier meals.
3. Can Can Wonderland
At Can Can Wonderland, there are more than 40 vintage arcade games and the coolest round of mini golf you’ll play in your adult life. Each hole was designed by local artists in their own style and you can bring craft brews from the Twin Cities on the course. Off the green, you can drink adult milkshakes like the Brain Freeze in the Afternoon (absinthe, sparkling wine and orange bitters).
4. Glam Doll Donuts
Glam Doll Donuts is a sweet, pink dream. Retro 1950s rock ‘n’ roll girl power galore, Glam Doll makes the goods onsite (in both locations) and is ready for your donut gram. Highlights? The bourbon-infused Pinup Girl apple fritter and the Daddy Dearest with locally-brewed Surly beer in the icing and bacon on top.
Fulton Beer
Even with the influx of football fans filling the city, you should still be able to grab a seat at Fulton’s garage-like taproom. The hometown pride brew is the Lonely Blonde or if you like a bit more hops, Sweet Child of Vine. Honorable mentions: Surly Brewery, Indeed Brewing and Lakes and Legends – this city is packed with beer.
