ClassPass Data Reveals 2017 Fitness Favorites Have Nothing To Do With Cardio
Gone are the days of running off excess brunch calories… or so it seems, according to the 2017 workout trends data from ClassPass, the largest studio fitness network in the United States. A couple of new workouts have taken center stage this year, both of which involve rethinking the way we internalize fitness as women.
First and foremost, strength training classes proved to be the most popular choices across the country, which suggests that we’re no longer concerned with idea that “weights make us bulk” and we’re more focused on the major health benefits that come from a considerable amount of muscle mass. Strong is definitely the new sexy.
And what’s even more interesting is how many of us are investing in our mental strength as much as our physical strength. The fastest growing fitness trend of 2017 involves classes that are centered around meditation, restoration and recovery. ClassPass saw a 16 percent increase in its users selecting these classes in 2017 as compared to 2016. And while they might not be the sweatiest or biggest calorie burners, they provide important, balancing health benefits that easily went ignored in the past.
The infographic above also highlights several cities across the country for their regional fitness wins. For example, Kansas City is full of early birds who prefer to attend class at 6:30 a.m. while night owl New Yorkers (unsurprisingly) prefer classes that start at 7:30 p.m. And then the folks in Charlotte, North Carolina are pros at using the lunch hour to log a solid sweat session.
Regardless of where you live, it looks like we’re all finally tuning into our bodies and giving them what they need most, be it a muscle-building strength session or a quiet hour of mindfulness and meditation. And that, friends, it something to be incredibly proud of.
