Eataly Is Opening A Theme Park For Pasta Lovers
Dreams are coming true for pasta lovers all over the world. On November 15 Eataly, the largest Italian market place in the world with locations all over the globe, will open its doors to a colossal $106 million food amusement park. FICO (which stands for Fabbricca Italiana Contadina, basically meaning Italian farming factory) Eataly World is set to become “the world’s largest agri-food park” that embodies Italian biodiversity at its finest, according to the company’s website.
Eataly World will be a 20-acre complex in Bologna, Italy, with 108,000 square feet of orchards, gardens, pastures, 40 farming factories 40 restaurants, six rides, over 100 traditional craft stores and 500 adult-sized tricycles equipt with shopping baskets. Visitors will have complete transparency and they’ll see how farmers process everything from cheese to meat.
Bloomberg reports that around six million tourists are expected to visit this Italian-food theme park every year, two million of those being international travelers. Entrance will be free of charge and when you get to the park you’ll have the option of exploring the property via bike or with the guidance of a FICO biodiversity ambassador.
Eataly World will be publicly-owned with 2,000 businesses ranging in size. According to Bloomberg, Tiziana Primori, the CEO of Eataly World, says the park will put eco-responsibility and sustainability at its core. During the construction process, reclaimed wood was used for building, which gives the whole park a natural look. There are also 44,000 solar panels, which is the most of any single property in Europe. The six educational rides are themed after “fire, earth, sea, animals, bottled goods and the future.” There will be a foundation with three universities and a congress center for meetings and conferences.
On the two-and-a-half acres of orchards and farmland, you’ll find olives, melons, eggplants, almond trees and hazelnut trees along with 30 kinds of produce. There will be nine kinds of cows, five kinds of pigs, five kinds of goats, five kinds of sheep, rabbit, geese and guinea hens. Talk about transparency, you can even watch them milk a sheep and then see that exact milk being turned into cheese. In 2018, the Eataly World crew plans to open a 200-room hotel within the complex.
So who’s hopping on a plane to Bologna? Pack your stretchiest pants and get ready for all the Italian food your body can handle.
