Life Hack Of The Day: Plastic Bag Edition

Reuse a plastic grocery bag as your travel shoe bag. Toss a few extra in your suitcase and use them for your dirty clothes so post-vacation unpacking is much easier.

Health

Supplements should do just that — supplement the nutrients you’re eating, not replace them. If you’re struggling to get the nutrients you need remember a few things: aim for 100 percent of each nutrient, the exception being water-soluble vitamins (vitamins C and B complex) since your body flushes out the excess when you go to the bathroom. Fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E and K) and minerals can build up in the body, leading to toxicity and sometimes severe health problems. A bit of research to make sure you’re on target can go a long way in making you stay on track. [Swirled]

Career + Finance + Tech

Manners never go out of style and a thank you will go a long way towards your career goals. According to the iCIMS 2018 Job Outlook Report, 74 percent of entry-level job candidates didn’t send a thank-you note post-interview, which potentially delayed their chance of being hired. The same report found that 63 percent of recruiters said they’d be more likely to hire someone who sent a thank-you note. Keep the message brief, and send both a thank you email as well as a handwritten note, which can be filled out in advance of your interview and dropped in a mailbox once you leave the meeting. Noted. Unlike avocados which need to be eaten right this minute, some veggies have a lengthier shelf life as long as they’re properly stored. Apples and cabbage wrapped in plastic in the crisper drawer can last up to two months, while potatoes are best stored in a cool dry spot away from the sun (think basement) and keep them away from onions and apples, they’ll make the potatoes spoil faster. Read on for more storage advice. [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: Kick your go-to Ceasar salad up a notch with a few twists — homemade croutons and homemade dressing with a punch of flavor and color from sun-dried tomatoes. The dressing is really the star and is a blend of sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, Parm, garlic and lemon juice. Sturdy Romaine is the best base for this type of salad and the crunch of homemade croutons adds an additional layer of texture to the dish. Add sauteed chicken or shrimp and Make it a main course. A quick tip from yours truly: Look for sun-dried tomatoes that are pliable. If they are too tough, reconstitute them in boiling water first to make them easier to incorporate into your recipe.
