6/27/19 Newsletter: 7 Tips For Mindful Eating

Mindful eating can help us become more in tune with our body’s fullness signals. Paying more attention to what you eat through mindful eating can help you appreciate your food and allow you to indulge without taking things to the extreme. For instance, eat when you are hungry — but don’t wait until you’re hangry. Be sure to turn off all distractions (we’re looking at you desk eaters) and take the time to appreciate the meal you’re about to enjoy. Don’t let guilt or other negative emotions get in the way of making you thoroughly enjoy what you’re eating. Click here for more ways to feel positive about your eating experience. [Swirled]

Life Hack Of The Day: Preserved Herbs Edition

Here’s a handy hack for your herbs. Preserve your abundance of fresh herbs using ice cube trays. Wash and destem the herbs, add to the trays, cover with olive oil or butter and freeze. You can easily pop them in a pan for later use and avoid throwing out wilted parsley.

Health

The human body doesn’t like significant or fast changes, and when it comes to losing weight — slow and steady does win the race. Rather than cutting out all the foods deemed “dirty,” make small adjustments to your diet gradually, this is far more sustainable than fads. By making moderate changes, your body will have time to recalibrate to any changes without throwing it off-kilter. [Swirled]

Grilled corn is one of the best tastes of the season — here are three tips to delicious corn on the cob.
1. Prep the ears of corn by pulling back the outer husks to the base, strip away those silky strands from each cob then fold the husks back down into place.
2. Season the corn by brushing the kernels with herbed butter or spices.
3. Grill over direct heat for 15-20 minutes. Don’t worry if the husks blacken — your kernels will be safe and sound inside. [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: If you’re looking for something new to grill, try halloumi and veggie skewers. Toss cubes of halloumi cheese in a mix of olive oil, garlic and black pepper. Thread onto a skewer with pieces of peppers, onions, zucchini and cherry tomatoes. Grill until the veggies and cheese are charred and serve with a peanut sauce made from peanut butter, water, lime juice, honey, garlic powder and chipotle in adobo. [Naturally Ella]

A quick tip from yours truly: Halloumi is a semi-hard cheese that gets crispy when grilled but doesn’t melt and make a mess. If you can’t find halloumi, you can look for grilling cheese. And, to prevent your skewers from burning, soak them in water for about 20 minutes before assembling.
