You Can Order Matcha Beer At This NYC Tea-Themed Bar
It’s not news that matcha is a hot commodity these days. You can find the specialized green tea around the corner at your favorite coffee shop, stuffed into macarons and made into frothy lattes. Now, a New York City bar is offering the tea in beer form. Green beer anyone?
Grubstreet reports that 29B, a tea bar in Manhattan’s East Village, opened earlier this week. The spot specializes in rare teas from around the world and also offers a number of alcoholic drinks like traditional sake, biodynamic wines and — yes — matcha-infused beer.
The green beverage, which is a rice-based lager, is made by one of Japan’s first microbreweries, Echigo Beer Company. So, how is it made, exactly? Matcha is whisked with a bit of the lager in a ceremonial tea bowl before being poured into a tall glass and topped with more beer. The result is a vivid-hued, frothy concoction that combines the strong, distinct matcha and deep, rich lager.
Aside from the matcha and other beverages, you can order from an extensive food menu to fill your belly at 29B.
If you want to marry your love of tea and alcohol, you need to check out the tea bar in New York City. At the very least, you’ll get a gorgeous Insta pic of the green monster, and maybe you’ll acquire a new taste or two along the way.
