Marketing Genius Poses as Donut Delivery Guy to Get His Resume in the Hands of Prospective Employees

Those of you looking for a job might want to borrow some ideas from Lukas Yla, an innovative “marketing professional” who took a hands-on approach to his job hunt in the San Francisco Bay Area — AKA the highly saturated tech hub known as Silicon Valley. In order to make sure that his resume ended up in the right hands, Yla opted to deliver his CV in person — by posing as a Postmates delivery guy, armed with boxes of donuts (from SF’s popular Mr. Holmes Bakehouse). Aside from the donuts, each box contained a bit.ly link to Yla’s LinkedIn page and a message to his potential future boss: “Most resumes end up in [the] trash. Mine — in your belly.” According to AdWeek, Yla was able to reach 10 top ad agencies and 30 tech companies. And if you’re wondering whether he got an interview — he got 10.

Lesson learned: Everyone loves donuts.

Oscar Mayer Jingle Songwriter Dies

Richard D. Trentlage, the songwriter who wrote advertising jingles for McDonald’s, V8, and other American brands, died late last month at the age of 87. Trentlage was best known for writing the winning entry to Oscar Mayer’s 1962 national contest for a memorable wiener jingle. Though he didn’t hear of the contest until the day before the deadline, Trentlage managed to complete his entry within an hour of sitting down at his typewriter, and that song, which debuted in 1963, became the enduring Oscar Mayer Wiener Song. The jingle was only retired by Oscar Mayer in 2010.

Union Square Cafe Announces 2 Pop-Ups to Make Up for Reopening Delay

Though originally slated for an October reopening, it now looks like Union Square Cafe 2.0 will be delayed until at least November — but in the meantime, you can catch a preview of chef Carmen Quagliata’s future USC menu on October 21, when he joins Michael Anthony in the kitchen at Untitled. Then, on October 27, chef Quagliata will join Eric Korsh at North End Grill as part of the recurring Fire + Wine dinner series. For both dinners, reserve a spot via OpenTable or by calling the restaurants.

A Prodigal Dishwasher Returns to Save Carnegie Deli

Sammy Musovic, a successful New York City restaurateur (Sojourn, Vero, and Selena Rosa) who got his start in the hospitality industry as a humble dishwasher at the famed Carnegie Deli, has high hopes that he may be able to save the Manhattan institution from closing at the end of the year. Musovic — who was hired at the deli as a recently immigrated teenager from the former Yugoslavia — wants to raise $5 million to save the historic pastrami shop. Reps from the Levine family told The Post that there is “no interest in discussing the sale of Carnegie Deli” — but maybe Musovic’s determination will inspire the family to reconsider.

“I don’t mind putting the sweat in,” Musovic said during a rally earlier in the week. “I’d be doing a service to New York.”

Do You Love Taco Bell Enough to Sleep There? Now You Can

To celebrate the launch of the “Doubledilla,” Taco Bell Canada is turning one of its restaurants in Ontario into an Airbnb, giving one super-fan the chance to enjoy a “steakcation” inside a Taco Bell. The winner, plus three friends, will find a set of bunk beds, some couches, and a big screen TV to enjoy an overnight stay. The company will also employ an on-call “Taco Bell Butler”  to cater to the lucky winners.
