You know that look  that look you get when you leave your pet at home to go grab a drink with friends? Well, fortunately, you have a choice that doesn’t involve a guilt trip. There are a couple of loophole bars in New York where you can bring your furry friends in tow (sorry cat people). Hang out with your best friend in a cozy backyard garden in the East Village or have an adventure at one of the best breweries in the city. Here’s your dog-friendly bar guide.

L.I.C. Bar, Long Island City

L.I.C. bar is an 100-year-old watering hole with an old-fashioned saloon vibe in the northern part of Long Island City. There are no fancy cocktails here, just plenty of beers on draft and a solid selection of scotch. The outdoor patio area off of the bar is the perfect spot for you and your dog to chill — in fact, it’s encouraged. There’s usually live music every week and during the winter months, the back room has a crackling fireplace. While there’s no food being served, you can order whatever you want and have it delivered — maybe some of these nearby Astoria spots will do the trick.

The Bronx Brewery, Port Morris

This small craft brewery and tasting room in the South Bronx has a weather-proof backyard with picnic tables, lawn games, and a fenced-in dog run where your pup can run free. Grab a seat at one of the picnic tables, where your dog has to be on a leash, and sample any of the five house-brewed ales like the pale ale or the newly released session IPA. This is an ideal after-work hangout spot where you and your furry friend can have some quality bonding time, share an ice cold beer, and get some beer education in all at the same time.

D.B.A., East Village

This East Village hangout is where you should host your dog’s next birthday party. The atmosphere at D.B.A. is pretty much catered to dogs and you can enjoy a selection of over 80 beers, with 16 of them on draft, including everything from European classics to domestic micro brews. This is also the spot for single malt scotch fans and tequila connoisseurs. One of the best parts of this alehouse is the huge back patio, with an enclosed greenhouse-like space during the colder months. D.B.A. is so dog-friendly that sometimes the bartenders carry around doggy treats in their pockets. This is the perfect spot for a Sunday afternoon filled with wine and your pooch.

Lucky Dog, Williamsburg

All dogs are welcome at this neighborhood drinking establishment. Leashes are optional and there’s an accommodating bubble-gum machine that dispenses dog treats, on the house. Lucky Dog is full of character with brick walls, a small deck up front, a shuffleboard table, and a fenced-in back deck with picnic tables. You can expect around twenty beers on tap (reasonably priced) on any given day, along with a selection of bottles and a cask beer engine. They do serve bar snacks but feel free to bring in food from your favorite restaurant on Bedford Ave. If you don’t have a dog, this an ideal judge-free dog-watching zone.

Bar Great Harry, Carroll Gardens

Two brothers, Ben and Mike Wiley, co-own Bar Great Harry in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn. There’s a beer roster of 70 bottles, a carefully curated list of rotating drafts (around twenty or so) that changes a few times a week, plus they usually have rare kegs available. This laid-back beer bar is dog-friendly with three pinball machines and a room in the back that can be reserved for private parties.
