Shake Shack, the burger and crinkle-cut fry empire from Danny Meyer, has begun testing its very first iOS mobile app at its Midtown East location (600 3rd Avenue). Guests can choose their desired pickup time and their meal will be cooked to order and timed to their arrival. Testing is currently limited to this location and “no timeline has been established for future Shacks to launch the app,” though it likely won’t be too long before the app reaches a Shake Shack near you. An Android version of the app is in development.

In a piece for New York magazine’s The Strategist, Food Network star and Times Square restaurateur Guy Fieri gave a ringing endorsement for Superfeet, a premium insole for sufferers of foot pain. Fieri writes: “One day I was talking to a buddy of mine who’s a podiatrist, and he said, ‘You’ve got nice cars. Do you put cheap tires on them? Try Superfeet.’” The bombastic Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives host says he loves them so much that he uses a version of them in every single pair of shoes in his rotation. Fieri whose shoots for Guy’s Grocery Games can take up to 12 hours a day and involve running all over a supermarket and standing for long periods of time — says that Superfeet have “made all the difference.”

Speaking of famous restaurateurs with a very specific preference for footwear, President Obama and the First Lady chose Mario Batali as the chef for their final state dinner, honoring Prime Minister Matteo Renzi of Italy. Batali stuck to “simple and recognizable” Italian dishes, “each with something to delight and surprise.” And yes, he was wearing his famous orange Crocs, which the chef purchased in bulk before the company discontinued the color.

Rum and Cigars Toast a New Diplomatic Era for the US and Cuba

In the last months of his presidency, Obama has ushered in a new age of trade and diplomatic relations with Cuba, lifting the $100 limit on Cuban rum and cigars. The historic decision marks a new approach to dealings with the communist nation, which has been under trade embargo since 1960, making it illegal for American companies to do business with Cuba. Obama, who in 2016 became the first sitting president to visit Cuba in 90 years, also announced earlier this year that American individuals would once again be able to travel to Cuba, previously only possible with special government permission. The first direct commercial flight traveled from the US to Cuba this August.

Jonathan Cheban, AKA Kim Kardashian’s permanent sidekick and the lead character of many secondary storylines on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has announced his newest business venture: a prepped-meal delivery service called Prepped Delivery. Cheban told People magazine that he was inspired partly by Kanye West (“I’ve been learning a lot by watching him talk about branding and packaging. I love his simplicity, but the fact that there is still a strong message”) and partly by his own love of food. “No one eats at restaurants as much as I do,” Cheban said. “So I wanted to do something gourmet, but accessible for everyone.” Cheban, who calls himself Foodgōd on Instagram, also owns Burger Bandit, a restaurant committed to “classic original American burgers” in Lynbrook, New York.
