Chile Pepper Festival At The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Returns
The annual Chile Pepper Festival returns to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on Saturday, October 1, highlighting New York City’s largest showcase of “chile pepper food artisans,” with 62 vendors across six categories:
- Hot Sauce Sorcery: Artisanal concoctions cooked up by an array of hot sauce wizards
- Chile-Chocolate Debauchery: Local companies’ signature confections
- Combustible Condiments: Chutneys, salsas, and specialty sauces
- Piquant Pickles: From kimchi to bread-and-butter, with horseradish for good measure
- Hi-Scoville Sweets: An eclectic assortment of candies, caramels, and treats
- PB & J: Lunchtime standbys with a spicy twist
Focusing on independent, largely Brooklyn-based vendors, the Chile Pepper Festival (10am-6pm) will feature food and one-of-a-kind products, some of which have been created especially for the festival. Among the things you’ll be able to eat and buy are chile-infused chocolates, hot sauce ice cream from OddFellows, Bronx Hot Sauce made from peppers grown in community gardens in the Bronx, handcrafted kimchi and gochugaru pepper pastes from Mother-in-Law’s Kimchi, and much more.
Also scheduled: live music, fire-breathing, sword-swallowing, “and other fiery feats.”
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors with ID, and free for members and children under 12.
