To help the victims of Italy’s devastating recent earthquake, Rafele Ristorante in the West Village will donate $5 to the Italian Red Cross for every plate of pasta all’amatriciana sold over the next week. The dish, which features a tomato and guanciale (pork jowl) sauce, is named after Amatrice, the small mountain village that was at the epicenter of the 6.2 magnitude quake. From now through September 30, Ribalta in Union Square will also donate $4 for every dish of pasta all’amatriciana sold.

Starbucks Beats Lawsuit in Icy Ruling

A US District Court has ruled that Starbucks can use as much ice as it wants in its iced-coffee drinks, giving the coffee chain a big victory against a plaintiff who sued Starbucks for intentionally underfilling drinks by using an excess amount of ice. “If children have figured out that including ice in a cold beverage decreases the amount of liquid they will receive,” Judge Percy Anderson’s ruling reads, then “a reasonable consumer would not be deceived” by the amount of ice Starbucks uses for its beverage menu.
