One company, Pack Up + Go, offers the full spontaneous package on a small scale. The company is known for planning three-day getaways for those who need a nice, long weekend. Here’s how it works: After answering a quick survey that covers topics like preferred travel dates, budget, where you don’t want to go and what your interests are, the company books your trip.

A week before your departure, you’ll receive an email with the exact dates and times of your trip, the weather forecast, what to pack and exactly where you need to be at what time to depart for your vacay. A few days before, you’ll get an envelope in the mail detailing directions to your accommodation and your city guide with recommended activities and restaurants. The last step? Go to your designated departure location, open the envelope, and go!

Another company, Whisked Away, operates on an international scale. With destination options all over North America, South America and Europe, the options are endless. Here’s how it works: You get to choose your region and travel dates, and then the company begins the pairing process by considering the weather of potential locations, what to do in certain towns, the cheapest airfare and the best hotels and restaurants for you.

Two weeks before your trip, you’ll receive an email on what to pack and the weather of your secret destination. Then, one week before your trip, you’ll receive a letter in the mail with all of your surprise travel details, including where you’re going. So, you find out a little earlier in the process, but it’s still fun!

If you really don’t know where to go on your next trip and you have an adventurous spirit, you absolutely should try one of these experiences. You may find that the companies that plan them have a better sense of how you should spend your TLC time than you do.
