Help Rescue Lovable Wild Seal Pups At This Netherlands Rescue Center

@zeehondencentrum

You can actually get up close and personal with these adorable seals as a volunteer in this Netherlands rescue center — and you’ll be helping to save their lives.

Sealcentre, one of the oldest seal rescue centers in the world, needs volunteers for the winter of 2018. The center is seeking volunteers in the veterinary, research and education departments as well as for the seal care team.

If you choose to donate your time (and love) to the seals, you’ll be helping to care for rescued, sick and injured animals, which can be both emotionally and physically exhausting. Sick or hurt baby seals at Sealcentre are adopted by the center where they receive medical care, food and time to grow before being released back into the wild.

Seals really are the puppies of the ocean. You will fall in love with all of the animal patients at the rescue hospital, and you’ll feel like a proud parent when you get to release a seal pup back into their natural habitats.

You don’t have to be a trained vet to volunteer here — there’s actually no experience required. Sealcentre pros will teach you on the job and your duties will include any number of tasks to get the pups in shape for Mother Nature.

The length of an internship depends on how much time you want to spend with the baby ocean predators. We think you might want to stay forever, but the official rules say you’re welcome for 12-24 weeks.

Volunteer applications are now open for the January to March session, so apply and get ready for seal pup overload!

Correction: A previous version of this story labeled this volunteer opportunity as an internship with provided housing. The article also described volunteer duties including bathing seal pups, which is not part of the volunteer tasks. The story has since been updated to include this information.
