Can’t Make It To Britain? Head To These 4 Spots For Royal Wedding Festivities

You can watch the historic royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on TV (since we all can’t jet over to England to join the festivities in person), or you could find a celebration stateside. Meghan Markle is American, after all, and that in itself is worthy of celebration. The British monarchy nearly crumbled to the ground in 1936 when the king wanted to marry a divorced American woman (just like Markle). Look how far we’ve come.

There are viewing parties and pop-ups in major cities across the U.S. So even if you can’t fly across the pond, maybe you can make it to one of these posh events closer to home. The actual date for the wedding is May 19, but there are events throughout all of May. And yes, there’s a lot of tea and hats involved.

1. Royal Wedding Viewing Party at Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens — Denver, Colorado

We all know the royals are big on charity work. And you can get in on the do-gooder action at Sense of Security’s bash with bottomless mimosas, royal trivia and a contest for the best hat (although fascinators and tiaras are fair game). Some of the proceeds benefit those undergoing breast cancer treatments.

2. A Royal Tea at The Plaza Hotel — New York, New York

Fun fact: Markle’s last acting gig was playing a character on the TV show “Suits” who dreamed of getting married at The Plaza. Honestly, you’ll find The Plaza on a whole lot of “Dream Wedding” Pinterest boards, but the NYC institution hotel is throwing its own festivities to celebrate the royal one in the U.K. Think delicate nibbles, tea and bubbly in the luxurious Art Deco Palm Court dining room.

3. Cocktails at the Royal Wedding PUB — Washington D.C.

Brought to you by the people who created the Game of Thrones pop-up bar last year, the Royal PUB is going all out. The creators are making a replica of St. George’s Chapel, where the royal nuptials will be held IRL, and the bar will serve drinks inspired by members of the royal family. We’ll take a “God Save the Queen”— a martini that comes with your very own crown.

4. Royal Celebrations at The Drake — Chicago, Illinois

The award for best fans of the royals in the country may go to Chicago’s The Drake Hotel. They have the crown jewel of American offerings. Every Monday in May, there are royal movies playing with fondue snacks. There’s a special cocktail menu all month as well as the opportunity to book the Princess Diana Suite where she stayed on a visit to Chicago. On the day itself, there is a viewing party over luncheon and a reception that evening, with a full orchestra and three-course meal.
