Spend A Year On The Road Visiting 52 Underrated Destinations (And Get Paid For It)

The New York Times annually awards 52 destinations the title of “Places to Go” — one for every week of the year. Usually, it’s a drool-worthy list you lust after from your office chair. But this time, you could visit every single one.

If you can dedicate an entire year to seeing these fantastic spots, you should apply to be the company’s new Travel Writer At Large. The New York Times job posting calls for an “ambitious traveler to turn our wish list into an itinerary.” It’s a gig for a modern-day Kerouac ready to translate travel into compelling stories about life on the road.

To be considered, your resumé should include some experience writing for a magazine, newspaper or website, and your passport should have a couple of stamps in it. It’s not a permanent post at the nation’s newspaper of record, but you will get to spend the year documenting your time exploring up-and-coming hotspots, forgotten gems and underappreciated corners of the world.

The application process isn’t easy. You’ll need to write 500 words on the most interesting place you’ve visited and another 500 words on the “themes you’d like to explore during your travels,” according to the job description.

If you’re ready to craft the most important cover letter of your wanderlust-driven life, you can apply here. We can’t wait to read those stories.
