This LA Distillery Wins All The Awards — But Go For The Wacky Themes Too

Lost Spirits Distillery is officially the best distillery tour in the business, but you’ll want to put this spot on your list for reasons besides that honor. It’s totally wacky and its brews are fantastic.

The LA rum and whisky distillery won first place in the Drinks International Tourism Challenge, and it’s not the first gold ribbon for Lost Spirits. The reason why it shines (and wins all the awards) is clear. Not just about the drinks, Lost Spirit is an entire experience and it’s kind of out of this world.

Somewhere between our reality, Willy Wonka and Alice in Wonderland, you’ll find Lost Spirits. The actual building is located in Downtown LA, but once you begin the two-hour tour, you’ll feel like you’ve left the City of Angels far behind. Imagine Disney’s Magic Kingdom, but everything is 100 percent about booze.

Whether you want to learn about the science of how alcohol is made or want to discover how the OG Mai Tai came about, it’s all part of the journey.

You have to ride a boat to reach the lab where the magic happens. The tour gives visitors a sneak peak into the the actual ingredients used to create Lost Spirits’ award-winning malt whisky. Next up, a cozy library where you’ll feel classy AF sipping a glass while perusing first edition H.G. Wells books. Even weirder, there’s a computer system called TESSA in the bathroom. Because what’s a bathroom if not completely automated by tech?

You can also ride adult-sized rides and drink your booze out of a delicate tea cup. You’re so far down the rabbit hole here.

If you want to go on this alcohol-infused adventure, you’ll need a reservation. The distillery isn’t open to the general public. It’s $30 per person for the tour and you can claim your spot on the Lost Spirits website.
