7/4/19 Newsletter: Happy Independence Day

“The American, by nature, is optimistic.” John F. Kennedy

We’re celebrating the stars and stripes with a little Independence Day trivia that will sure to be a hit at your BBQ today.

  • The Declaration of Independence wasn’t actually signed on July 4th. Or in July. Over 50 of the signatures came on August 2, 1776. So yes, while John Trumball’s 1819 painting “Declaration of Independence” is iconic, it didn’t happen the way the image portrays.
  • There have been 27 variations of the American flag, with the current one having been adopted in 1960.
  • According to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, on the Fourth of July alone, 150 million hot dogs get consumed – enough to stretch between L.A. and Washington, D.C. more than five times.
  • There are over 16,000 fireworks displays each year and it’s expected to cost over one billion dollars to set them off this year!
