Health Tip Of The Day: Cooking With Garlic, Onions And Ginger Can Help Boost Your Mood And Reduce Unnecessary Inflammation.

What Science Says: Inflammation is an important part of the immune system’s response to injury and infection. It’s your body’s way of telling your immune system to heal and repair damaged tissue, as well as defend itself from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. Although inflammation is vital for the healing process, if it goes on for too long or it occurs in places where it’s not needed it can become problematic. Scientists have found that there’s a strong link between inflammation and mood disorders like depression, theorizing that it’s very possible that too much of one leads to the other. Onions, ginger and garlic all have amazing anti-inflammatory benefits; researchers even found that garlic acts as an anti-depressant in mice (it’s still unclear if this holds true for humans, but it’s a promising start). Incorporating more of this amazing (and delicious!) trio into your recipes could ward off unnecessary inflammation and brighten up your sulky mood. [Mindbodygreen]

How To Cook Them: If you’re looking to incorporate more of these three anti-inflammatory foods into your weekly meal rotation, consider making this Ginger and Spring Onion Chicken recipe for dinner one night. It’s tender chicken, cooked with sautéed onion, ginger and garlic and topped with a yummy oyster sauce. The best part? You can make it in just 15 minutes. [A Saucy Kitchen]
