Although there are some wacky rules about what’s allowed in your carry-on, some things people bring to the security checkpoint are just bonkers. Here are some of our favorites, as told by the Transportation Security Administration – through its shocking and hilarious Instagram account.

The Service Duck – Allowed

“The traveler assured us there was no ‘fowl’ play afoot and that this was simply her service duck. Our officers at Charleston (CHS) were overheard saying that this duck was pretty chill.”

The Bowling Ball – Allowed

“If you’ve noticed that your bag is a lot lighter, you may have forgotten your bowling ball at the Washington Dulles (IAD) TSA checkpoint. Hopefully this person had a ‘spare.'”

The Fish Knife – Not Allowed

“Call it a hunch, but this bottle opener looked a bit fishy, so our officer took a closer look and discovered this knife. I had a bunch of other fish puns to use, but I decided to reel them in and scale back.”

The Whole Pizza – Allowed

“In case you were wondering, pie can fly. Or you can just take it to your gate area and #nom on it.”

The Giant Lobster – Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“This Boston Logan (BOS) TSA officer found himself in a pinch and needed to remove this giant lobster from its container to resolve a checked baggage alarm. This is proof that lobsters are allowed in carry-on and checked bags.”

The Meat Slicer – Not Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“This meat slicer was discovered recently in a carry-on bag at the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). Blades on slicers, and food processors are razor sharp and are prohibited from being packed in carry-on bags.”

The Oversized Teddy – Not Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“Why does this gigantic teddy bear look so sad? He was abandoned by his owners at LAX after the airline and TSA determined that he was just too big to be screened as a carry-on and taken on the plane.”

The Mummy Prop – Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“Talk about deadheading… This crusty ol’ chap is actually a prop from the #TexasChainsawMassacre movie. He was brought through a checkpoint at the Atlanta (#ATL) International Airport, where as you can see, he was screened and sent on his jolly way.”

The Sealife Collection – Not Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“These eels were discovered in a passenger’s checked bag at the #Miami (#MIA) International Airport. Among many other things, the passenger was attempting to transport 163 marine tropical fish and 22 invertebrates to #Maracaibo (MAR). The passenger surrendered the items to the @usfws (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).”

The Penguin Parade – Allowed

A post shared by TSA (@tsa) on

“Even though all eyes were on them, they played it pretty cool. You see, traveling is pretty chill for a penguin. They don’t have pockets to remove stuff from and they don’t wear shoes.”
