Your Avocado Obsession Could Get A Lot Cheaper

Every millennial knows the struggle of wanting all the avocados, but having none of the money. Buying them hasn’t gotten any easier since avo prices hit a record high in May. Don’t be discouraged, though — sources say you could be paying less for your avocados soon. This may be the best news since…well, we don’t know when.

Bloomberg reports that prices of your favorite fruit could reach a low point next year for a number of reasons.

First, avocados develop on a two-year cycle, and next year should yield the most in the period. Also, Mexico had a poor avocado season last year, according to Bloomberg, but the country is already surprising the industry by delivering better-than-expected numbers of perfect little avos this year. More avos naturally coming from Mexico plus next year’s good point in the two-year cycle = cheaper avocados.

Though this sounds extremely promising, it’s just speculation at this point. Until we know exactly how the avocado season turns out next year, all we can do is hope. At the very least, though, sources say that we shouldn’t see any more increases in prices.

Bloomberg interviewed Robert Bonghi, the Georgia-based director of procurement and pricing at the Produce Alliance, which provides fresh food to food service clients. Bonghi said, “Prices in the foreseeable future will stabilize a little, and you won’t see a sharp incline. You’re not going to see 10 avocados for a dollar.”

We’re feeling optimistic, and we’re waiting patiently for next year to hopefully bring us cheaper avos! We can’t get enough of them, so this news is enough to send us into happy mode.
