5 Super Cozy Teas You Can Make At Home

After a long, stressful day, cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea can feel equivalent to a spa treatment. Tea has healing properties, especially if you can get your hands on loose-leaf tea. Well, instead of searching for the nearest specialty tea shop, why not make it at home? All you need is a tea infuser or a strainer. Here are five awesome teas you can make whenever you want, especially when no spa treatments are in your near future.

1. Peppermint Tea

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. dried peppermint leaves or 3/4 tsp. fresh leaves
  • 1 tsp. sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup of water

Instructions

Add peppermint leaves to a tea infuser and drop into a pot of boiling water. Steep the leaves for five to ten minutes.

2. Masala Chai Tea

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp. black tea

Instructions

Crush the cloves, cinnamon and cardamom in a mortar or coffee grinder. Boil the water, then add the crushed spices, ginger and pepper. Remove the pan from heat and steep for five minutes. Add the milk and optional sugar, and bring the pot to a boil again. Stir a minute, then take the pot off the heat again and add the tea. Strain and enjoy!

3. Ginger Tea

Ingredients

  • 2-inch chunk of fresh raw ginger
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

Peel ginger and slice thinly, then add to boiling water. Boil from 10 to 15 minutes. Take off heat and add lemon juice. Enjoy!

4. Lavender Tea

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. fresh lavender flowers or 1 1/2 Tbsp. dried Lavender flower
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Honey and lemon optional

Instructions

Add the lavender to a boiling pot of water, either in an infuser or loose, and steep for four to five minutes. Add honey and/or lemon if desired. Remove the infuser or strain the lavender out of the tea. Enjoy!

5. Turmeric Tea

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground clove
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 pinch of fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • Honey (optional)
  • Milk of choice (optional)

Instructions

On medium-low heat, simmer spices and water for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain the tea, then add optional milk and honey and stir. Enjoy!
