Audience Development Director

OVERVIEW

Swirled has an immediate opening for an audience development director with an exceptional aptitude for driving newsletter subscriptions through social, organic, paid media and partnerships. This role will be pivotal in helping shape the company’s growth and expansion strategy across multiple platforms and content areas. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Parse.ly, and Facebook Insights and will be well-versed in driving the growth of a newsletter subscription base and general website audience through various forms of content distribution (i.e. paid media, newsletters, etc.) This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in designing and informing Swirled’s growth strategy for the coming years.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increase our newsletter subscriber base through social, organic, partnerships and paid strategies
  • Determine the best opportunities for Swirled to reach new audiences and new platforms in a shifting online media landscape
  • Use paid media to drive engagement and viewership for branded and editorial content
  • Analyze and profitably grow viewership across Swirled.com and its various social platforms
  • Expand Swirled distribution strategy to multiple new and emerging platforms
  • Develop testing strategy to optimize newsletter performance
  • Work with internal teams to identify business needs and help develop solutions
  • Provide reporting and insight for our sales team to support their efforts to sell advertising campaigns
  • P&L responsibility for department budget for subscriber acquisition and retention
  • Responsibility for newsletter acquisition growth and retention
  • Develop new distribution channels such as word of mouth, ambassador programs and new social channels
  • Member of the senior management team and active role in creating the company’s growth strategy
  • Oversees social media editor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-7 years of digital media experience
  • Demonstrated ability to profitably drive subscribers to business or consumer content newsletters.
  • Solid proficiency with analytics tools and software (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Parse.ly, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge in various forms of content distribution (paid media, newsletters, social media, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of complex web ecosystems, best practices and applying this knowledge to their work
  • Proficiency with web-based business applications (Google Docs, relationship and workflow management software)
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to change direction and operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with an understanding of how and when to be proactive
  • Fluency in major social media networks and an active presence on them along with a sense of humor, positive attitude, and passion for social media

Swirled has an immediate opening for an editor to run the website’s Thrive section, a destination for millennial women focused on career, personal finance, productivity and general “adulting” topics. The successful candidate will develop Thrive’s editorial vision and create content that engages a loyal audience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write on average three dynamic, shareable stories on career, personal finance, productivity and general “adulting” topics each day
  • Optimize stories for social media and SEO in WordPress
  • Come prepared to pitch meetings with story ideas
  • Diligently monitor analytics, derive insights and use data to inform story selection and creation strategy
  • Monitor trending topics and capitalize on opportunities to generate buzz
  • Collaborate with social media and newsletter editors on distribution strategy
  • Track best-of-the-web coverage and the work of our competitors
  • Participate in viral brainstorms and collaborate with team members on story ideas
  • Support creation and refinement of editorial style and curation guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

Ambassador Program Coordinator

OVERVIEW

Swirled has an immediate opening for an ambassador program coordinator to work out of our New York City office. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing our ambassador program, building a community of avid Swirlists who help spread the word about our newsletter and website. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Launch and manage Swirled’s ambassador program
  • Develop a strategy for recruiting ambassadors, including an interview, vetting and onboarding process
  • Execute a clear communications strategy, and engage with and manage a growing team of ambassadors via email, phone and social media
  • Create a framework for how the Swirled editorial team engages with ambassadors and connects with the community
  • Facilitate story pitch process from ambassadors
  • Conceive, plan and execute local events for NYC-based ambassadors, as well as attend networking events.
  • Review and report on data assessing ambassador program performance
  • Create and track ambassador rewards program
  • Support social media editor at events
  • Leverage opportunities to partner with brands and PR companies to scale ambassador program
  • Collaborate with the Swirled team to ensure ambassador program aligns with our company’s goals and brand
  • Integrate the ambassador program into our editorial and business growth strategies
